Subject: Word Master

I will take the role of word master because this book contained a lot of terms that dealt with the ocean and ocean tasks. I think that it would be helpful to have these words spelled out for the students. Especially some of the students in south eastern Ohio that may have never seen the ocean.
1. kayak: p. 3 an Eskimo canoe made of a frame covered with skins except for a small opening in the center.

2. calibrate: p.37 to determine, rectify or mark the graduations of a thermometer.

3. charter: p.22 a travel arrangement in which transportation is hired by and for a specific group or people.

4. freighter: p.145 one that loads or charters a ship.

5. console: p. 137 an architectural member projecting from a wall to form a bracket or from a keystone for ornament.

6. grotto: p.108 cave, an artificial recess or structure made to resemble a natural cave.

7. auxiliary: p. 96 equipped with sails and a supplementary inboard engine

Subject: Connector

For some reason, I keep forgetting to do this part of our assignments. I do the group discussion and the paper, but as I looked back at these, I noticed I forgot to do this so here goes..... I would like to do the connection for the Reef of Death.
This book reminds me of a McGyvre show on television. It seemed that the more trouble that PC and Maruul got into once in the under sea world, the more gadgets they came up with to survive. Again, this reminds me of McGyvre, because no matter how sticky the situation became, he could always use his scientific ingenuity to come up with a gadget that would help him escape.
Also, for some reason when they brought Dr. Ecenbarger up in the story, for some reason I thought of Professor McGonnagold (I think that is her name) off of the movie Harry Potter. I read the book, but the person who plays this part in the movie was the person I thought of while reading this book. I guess it is because she is clever and mysterious. All I could think of was this little lady with brown hair pulled back into a tight bun, with somewhat suken in cheeks. She would wear a white robe and glasses, like other scientists. Again, it was more my own perception of her, than what Zindel described of her in the book.
